Pho 54 represents 1954, the last year that Vietnam was divided by the North and South before the Vietnam War united the two under communist rule.

The answer is simple, and usually one of two variations. The first, and most likely, answer is that the number represents the year the owner immigrated to the United States from Vietnam. The second, less likely, reason is that the number represents the year the owner established the business.

The restaurant was named for the year many of the family arrived in the United States, 1979. The restaurant was one of the first in the area to serve pho and according to the Beard announcement, "helped pave the way for Southern California's Little Saigon to become the dynamic hub of Vietnamese cuisine" in the area.

More specifically it is the year that our family first immigrated to the United States. This number means a lot to our family and is something that has been around since the beginning of our business.
